Thanks!

A big thank you to all of those who attended The Progress Paradox events and were a part of the lively post-lecture discussions, dinner conversations, and general reflection and dialogue on issues of development.

As Jen Jones said on the panel on Sustainable Development, it’s not a bad thing if we are leaving with more questions than answers. In fact, those questions are necessary to inform our intentions and better our actions as we seek social and environmental restoration.

For those of you who were not able to make it, please watch this space for soon-to-be-published VIDEOS of all of our events. We hope that these recordings will spread these conversations much beyond the Swarthmore College campus!

– Stay tuned!

The Phoenix reports on Gustavo Esteva’s lecture

“On Tuesday evening, Mexican activist Gustavo Esteva told the audience packed into Science Center 101 for his lecture “Beyond Development and Globalization” that it is impossible to change the world. (…) However, after an hour and a half long exploration of grassroots movements, the nature of anarchy and the concept of “buen vivir,” or living well, he offered the Swarthmore community an alternate solution: to build from the bottom up and create new worlds in a time when frustration with government and institutions is at an historic high.”
